HIV+ gay and bi men! Sign-on letter supporting an informed debate about PrEP based on facts, not misinformation

The release of data from the iPrEx study of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention in gay and bisexual men and transgender women has led to a good deal of debate about whether and how PrEP should be used. Unfortunately, some of that debate has been fueled by misrepresentations of the study data and, perhaps more alarmingly, by groundless assertions that gay/bi men and other men who have sex with men (MSM) will misuse PrEP, spread drug resistance and act without regard to their health or the health of others if PrEP is made available.

The seX Factor: A Dialogue on HIV Prevention-was held on February 9th at the ChicagoState University. The dialogue was in reconginition of the 25th National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. These programs offer assistance to people with private health insurance for the co-payments they have to make at the pharmacy for their HIV drugs. Some companies offer co-pay assistance for all of their drugs, including non-HIV drugs.

WHO: AIDS leading cause of death, disease in women

GENEVA – In its first study of women's health around the globe, the World Health Organization said Monday that the AIDS virus is the leading cause of death and disease among women between the ages of 15 and 44.
