Congress Ends Twenty Year Federal Funding Ban on Syringe Exchange

WASHINGTON, December 13, 2009 – The Senate, in a 57 – 35 vote on a six bill appropriations “minibus,” agreed to end the ban on the use of federal funds for syringe exchange.  Additionally they agreed to allow Washington D.C.

House Votes to End Ban on Sterile Needle Exchange!

This afternoon, the House of Representatives voted 211-218 against an amendment proposed by Mark Souder, which would have prohibited federal funding for programs that distribute sterile needles or syringes for hypodermic injection of illegal substances.
