At this year’s Lobby Days, we will work to improve healthcare access for low-income Illinoisans, especially those living with HIV. To that end, advocates will urge legislators to remove preexisting exclusions from insurance policies, expanding Medicaid eligibility, and making insurance more affordable for small businesses to provide. We will also focus on addressing HIV among Illinois youth through issues advocating for comprehensive sex education in schools and urging the reversal of the principal notification law that requires that a student’s HIV-positive status be reported to the school principal. Finally, the HIV/AIDS community will call upon legislators to maintain funds for HIV prevention and care programs. The state funded services are crucial to reducing new infections and treating people living with the virus. Learn more about the issues - come to the training!
