Chicago Female Condom Campaign Invites Area Agencies to Participate in Pool Purchasing. The Chicago Female Condom Campaign*, a coalition of area organizations working to expand access, availability, and utilization of female condoms (FCs), has launched a pool purchasing program to enable greater affordability of and access to female condoms.  Area agencies are invited to join the pool purchasing program to access greater quantities of female condoms for nearly 30% less than the cost of the original FCs. Through this joint purchasing program, agencies will pay approximately .75 per condom. A minimum order of one case (1,000 female condoms at $755) is required to participate. Details regarding participation are below and included in the attached order form.

Approved by the Food and Drug Administration in early 2009 and now available for purchase in the U.S., the FC2 is the latest generation of the only woman-initiated HIV, STI, and pregnancy prevention tool currently on the market. New and improved, the FC2 is seamless, softer, and quieter than the original female condom. The FC2 is composed of a synthetic latex known as nitrile that is equally protective at reducing a person’s risk of HIV and STI infection as the FC1, and is safe for use by people with latex allergies.
In addition to its efforts to increase the availability of female condoms in Chicago, the Campaign also offers female condom trainings for service providers. Longtime HIV prevention and family planning educators, as well as people who are new to the female condom, can benefit from this informational, interactive, and hands-on training.

Participants will learn about the facts and features of the new female condom as well as the best practices for effectively promoting it among clients and communities. In addition to learning new tips and strategies on effective female condom education, training participants will also have the opportunity to share the strategies they have found to be most useful.

Participation and Ordering Details:
1. All orders fewer than five cases (5,000 female condoms) will be shipped to the AIDS Foundation of Chicago office and will require Agency pickup. You will be notified via email when your order has arrived and is ready for pickup. Orders for more than five cases will be shipped directly to your agency.
2. Orders will not be processed until payment is received.
3. Order processing may take from three to four weeks as AFC must pool enough orders to reach the 25 case minimum order set by the Female Health Company.
4. By participating in the AIDS Foundation of Chicago’s pool purchasing of female condoms, Agency agrees to not redistribute female condoms for sale.
