Howard Brown Health Center - 2nd Annual Latino Open House
In recognition of Latino Heritage Month and National Latino AIDS Awareness Day, Howard Brown Health Center will host its second annual Latin@ Open House on Wednesday, October 14th.
“In response to the overwhelming success of last year’s event, we will once again open our doors and extend our services to the LGBT Latino/a community,” says Michael Cook, President and CEO of Howard Brown Health Center. “This special event highlights the services and resources that are available every day at Howard Brown. But it is our hope that this event will remind the LGBT Latino/a community that we are always here to meet their healthcare and wellness needs.”
Designed as a mixer plus workshop format, the event will provide information and services free of charge in an accessible, bilingual and entertaining environment. The three-hour event includes:
* FREE HIV/STD testing, treatment and safer sex supplies
* FREE HEP A/B Vaccinations
* FREE Breast & Cervical Cancer Screenings for uninsured women
* FREE Workshops: on topics such as HIV/STD/Sexual Health, Health Disparities in the Latin@ Community and Fighting Stigma and Discrimination, as well as opportunities to talk to health educators and staff
* PLUS: Information booths on Howard Brown Health Center’s Research Opportunities, Case Management Services, Medical and Counseling Services, Financial Counseling (Q&A), and more
The event reflects the vision and contributions of Howard Brown’s Latino Heritage Month Committee, according to Howard Brown’s Latino Health Specialist, Julio Maldonado. “Our research has shown us that the LGBT Latino community often times feels excluded from their compatriots based on their sexual orientation,” stated Maldonado. “We want the LGBT Latino community to know we are here and that Howard Brown is a safe and affirming environment where they are always welcome.”
The second annual Open House for the LGBT Latino/a community will take place on Wednesday, October 14, from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm in the lobby of Howard Brown Health Center, located at 4025 N. Sheridan Rd. in Uptown.
