Rural HIV/AIDS Research opportunity
Project ASPIRE Seeking Participants
Hearthstone Research and Development is currently conducting a research project that seeks to develop an individualized, videophone-delivered intervention to improve medication adherence in persons living with HIV/AIDS. Videophones appear to be an innovative method to deliver an adherence intervention and assess its effectiveness. Achieving and sustaining high levels of antiretroviral therapy adherence is challenging for many persons living with HIV, especially for those living in rural areas. The focus of this project is on persons living with HIV/AIDS who live in rural areas, who report problems with adherence to their HIV medication regimen, and who are 18 years of age or older. Interested individuals would nitially be screened (two 30 minutes interviews) to assess eligibility followed by the intervention phase (8 sessions with a skilled therapist once per week via videophone). Pill counts will be completed over the videophone before the intervention, during the intervention, and through follow-up interviews at 1-week, 1-month, 2-months, and 3-months (with each interview lasting approximately 30 minutes). Participants will receive up to $200 for their full participation. We are in the second year of the study and have been seeing very promising results thus far.
