Take Action: Stop Abusive Health Insurance Practices - Tell your Representative to Vote “Yes” on HB 3923

stethPremiums go up and care gets denied. That’s the way the health insurance business works in Illinois, and it’s killing us – literally. Health insurance premiums have risen over 68% in the last six years, and what have Illinoisans gotten in return? Medical coverage denial, pre-existing conditions clauses, and a bureaucratic structure aptly placed to dodge the insurance claims of its consumers.

Health insurance company profits continue to soar. Their executives’ bonuses make AIG look like chump change. Two Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois honchos got $26 million in bonuses in one year alone. The health of Illinois families is funding these uncontrolled excesses. This is no longer a simply a fiscal issue, it is a moral one.

Tell your State Rep. we need consumer protections now. HB 3923, sponsored by State Rep. Greg Harris (D-Chicago) starts Illinois’ path to reform by:

  • Guaranteeing that at least 75% of our premiums go to care rather than sustaining these companies’ exorbitant profit margins.
  • Leaving final decisions on medically necessary treatments to doctors, not insurance executives.
  • Creating the Office of Consumer Health Insurance to serve as a consumer watchdog and protect patients.
  • Establishing a single health insurance application so insurance companies can't ask misleading, unclear questions and consumers can comparison shop.

Your voice will make the difference. Please take one minute to fax your representative urging him or her to vote “yes” on HB 3923.
