Three Actions You Can Take NOW to Stop HIV Funding Cuts
The budget for state-funded HIV/AIDS and human service programs will be cut by 50% or more beginning July 1 if legislators do not act immediately to increase revenue.
Here are three things you can do NOW:
1) Attend the rally at the Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph, Chicago, Thursday, June 18, 11:30 AM, and bring others with you!
Bring agency banners and ask staff and clients to wear clothing that identify them as people who care about HIV.
Bring pots and pans to make some noise!
Ideas for hand-made signs: “Raise my taxes!” “Don’t cut HIV programs” Be creative!
If you’re free after work on Tuesday, please come to the AIDS Foundation of Chicago, 200 W Jackson Blvd, #2200, from 5:30 – 7:30pm for the AFC HIV/AIDS Rebel Rouser Sign Making Party in preparation for the Budget Rally on Thursday. Just RSVP to Courtney at crowe@aidschicago.org (you must RSVP to be let in the building.)
2) Send a fax to your state representative and tell him or her how these cuts affect you:
3) Download a letter to state representatives, make copies, and ask everyone you know to sign it – consumers, board members, friends, church members, etc. As soon as a letter is signed, please fax it to AFC at 312-922-2916. Here’s the letter.
And finally, forward this message widely! Post it on your Facebook page, call your friends, and crank up the advocacy machine!
