Today is National ADAP Call-in Day! Demand that President Obama Address the ADAP Crisis NOW!!!
We know you’ve called and emailed, but we need to keep the pressure up. Around America, nearly 1,800 people in 10 states can’t get the HIV medications they need to stay healthy and alive because of the woefully underfunded AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), and people with HIV in Illinois now face the same fate.
Out of a $3.8 trillion dollar budget, President Obama and Congress just can’t seem come up with the $126 million (less than 1/30,000th of the entire budget) that’s needed for life-saving HIV medications. For everyday people that seems like a lot of money, but to the United States government, its chump change.
How you can help: Please call President Obama (202-456-1111) today and leave the following message:
My name is and I am calling today because President Obama must address the current crisis in AIDS Drug Assistance Programs. This past weekend was National HIV Testing Day. We know that ADAP waiting lists and other access restrictions will deter people from getting tested to know their status. For many living with HIV/AIDS, ADAP is the only access they have to life-saving medications. However, over 1,781 HIV-positive individuals are on waiting lists to access the programs. Relief must be provided so that ADAP clients can receive their medications and additional states don’t find themselves in a similar situation.
