Purpose of the Conference:
The goal is to address the public health crisis created by HIV/AIDS in the Latino Community.  The conference will provide the opportunity to bring all of our experiences together in one powerful forum in order to influence service providers, legislators, as well as social and civic leaders. Conference attendees, including the service providers, advocates, research scientists, and people living with HIV/AIDS will participate in workshops and panels that highlight critical issues and promising solutions.

The conference offers the opportunity to network, build on our skill set, and develop action plans.  It reminds us of our commitments to defeat HIV/AIDS through unity, understanding, passion and leadership.

The following are process objectives for the conference:

Discuss the current epidemiology in the Latino Community;

Strategize ways to address the unique and diverse needs of Latino/Hispanic communities in a rapidly changing HIV/AIDS crisis;

Provide evidence-based HIV prevention strategies training to strengthen indivdual and community level efforts;

Build awareness of the need for improved service provision among appointed and elected officials, as well as the established HIV planning bodies statewide; and

Enhance the skills of persons providing HIV/AIDS prevention education, outreach and resource navigation and other services to the Latino communities.

Panel Description
The panel will discuss the impact of health disparities, HIV/AIDS and the effects of stigma, homophobia and discrimination. The focus of this panel will be to discuss the changing resources, services, and demographics as they relate to HIV/AIDS and the Latino community, talk about the effects of migration and lessons learned and to take a look forward to what we can expect and how we can affect the next 25 years. This panel provides the expertise to explore avenues to influence legislators, as well as social and civic leaders, galvanize the Latino communities, explore access to healthcare issues and highlight promising solutions.
