This one day conference will explore current research needed to understand how sexual violence and HIV areas overlap. The conference offers the opportunity to network, build skills, and develop action plans. It reminds us to defeat HIV/AIDS through unity, understanding, passion and leadership.
Violence and the fear of violence are contributing to HIV vulnerability among women in the Chicago area. This conference will explore the interplay between these factors and outcomes for women’s holistic health and wellness. Sessions will highlight recent research, prevention and treatment programs appropriate for survivors and women at risk. This event will bring together researchers, activists, policy makers and service providers working in the areas of violence and HIV.

Purpose of the conference
The conference will review current:
- Research activities in the area of violence against women (domestic violence, sexual assault) and HIV/AIDS;
- Identify key research questions (epidemiological, social/behavioural, clinical and intervention related) related to the connections between domestic and sexual violence against women and HIV/AIDS;
- Identify opportunities to integrate issues of violence into ongoing HIV/AIDS research activity, and vice-versa;
- Cover new interventions, programs, tools and methods available that are being used in the Chicagoland area;
Target Audience
Persons with experience in prevention education, violence prevention and education, and violence against women, such as health care providers, prevention and community health workers, nurses, health educators, program directors, social workers, case managers, and many others.
