Job Title: Full Time Health Educator
Organization: Puerto Rican Cultural Center- Vida/SIDA
Program: MPowerment intervention was designed for and tested among young gay men and significantly reduces sexual risk. The primary target population is Latino MSM (i.e., gay and bisexual men and male-to-female transgender individuals,) between 18 and 24 years of age. It includes HIV positive and negative individuals as well as those of unknown status. All participants will be residents of the Chicago metropolitan area.

Job Summary
Requirements include: high school diploma/GED, experience in HIV/AIDS with MSM, and being fully bilingual. This person will assist the core group, co-facilitate M-groups, participate in volunteer recruitment and retention activities, and assist in the cross-sectional community annual survey. In addition this position will require experience in administrative tasks, and expertise working with website maintenance. This position will be under the supervision of the Program Coordinator and will be responsible for overseeing facilities, responding to telephone and Internet inquiries, and data entry.
Requirements
• Bi-lingual - verbal, reading, and writing (Spanish and English)
• Bachelors/Masters degree in health, social science, or related field and minimum of 2 years experience (preferably with target population and/or community-based organization)
• Current certification to provide HIV counseling and testing including rapid HIV testing
• Demonstrated experience providing HIV counseling and testing
• Must be willing to attend a protocol training session slated to occur in late summer, early fall of 2010 in Washington, DC.
Responsibilities
• Coordinate various types of community-level outreach events that will attract participants to the youth center;
• Coordinate and implement a community-level intervention as prescribed by the Mpowerment model under the supervision of the Program Coordinator.
• Provide HIV prevention information and referral services, via internet outreach, to the Latino MSM residing in the Greater Chicago;
• Distribute safer sex information and supplies
• Conduct sessions on safer sex behavior and skills- building
• Conduct participant risk assessment sessions
• Collect evaluation data.
• Attend health fairs, conferences, workshops
• Establish linkages with target areas, local businesses, CBO, etc.
• Co-facilitate group-level interventions;
• Complete all documentation requirements and provide quality control of all data entry
• Attend all local team meetings and retreats, including the All Center’s Puerto Rican Cultural Center’s Monthly Meetings.
• Performs other functions assigned by the Project Coordinator.
• Attend CDC training and meetings, workshops, and seminars-HIV prevention
• Attend Vida/SIDA activities and meetings

• Sensitivity to HIV issues, and gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and language diversity
• Ability to effectively deliver oral and written presentations
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary setting and complete tasks on a timely basis
• Ability to work with sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and sexual diversity
• Ability to present self with a professional approach/appearance and demonstrate high level of emotional maturity
• Computer Skills – word processing, excel, data entry
