What is AIDS Connect?
AIDS Connect is your launching pad for all things HIV/AIDS in Chicago. It is a “community site” designed to connect people to HIV/AIDS resources across the city. On this site, people can:
• promote Chicago-area HIV-related events
• post job, volunteer, or internship opportunities in the HIV/AIDS field
• find information on housing, case management, legal advice, and other services
• access interactive educational tools to learn more about HIV/AIDS
The AIDS Foundation of Chicago's Service Providers Council hosts AIDSConnect.net as a resource for all entities and individuals committed to the fight against HIV/AIDS in metropolitan Chicago
Who will benefit from the site?
People who work in the HIV/AIDS field, who are living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, who are AIDS advocates, and folks who want to learn more about the epidemic should all find something of interest on AIDS Connect.
How do I post information to the site?
Anyone can read information on AIDS Connect, but in order to post information, you must become a registered user. This is a painless, two-minute experience – and it’s free! Once you get to the community site, look at the top right of the page. You’ll see a link that says SIGN IN. Click there, type in some information, choose a user name and password, and then hit submit. In a minute or two you’ll receive an email from the community site containing a link. Click on that link to confirm your registration and then you’re ready to go. You can now post an event, a job, or a comment on the community blog.
IMPORTANT: Your account will not be activated UNTIL you click on the link from your confirmation email and then sign in with your newly created member name and password.
What should I post on the site?
Post information that you feel will be relevant and useful to others interested in HIV/AIDS. The community site will NOT be a place for spamming or using inflammatory language to criticize individuals. Inappropriate users will have access to the site revoked. Any inappropriate posting will be deleted.
I work at an AIDS organization; how can I use the site?
Perhaps the best way to use the site is to designate certain people within your organization to post certain types of information. Ask someone in your development department to be in charge of posting your organization’s events. Have someone who handles human resource issues add job/volunteer/internships to the site. That way you won’t have to worry about duplicate postings.
