December 1st will mark World AIDS Day, an occasion to raise awareness, honor those who have died and inspire action against AIDS.
Here are five things you can do in the spirit of World AIDS Day:
1. Read about the latest scientific breakthroughs that are moving us closer to a world without AIDS.
2. Advocate for sound and compassionate HIV/AIDS policies here in Illinois by joining our Statewide Advocacy Network.
3. Educate yourself and others about the state of HIV/AIDS today.
4. Request information about the TEAM TO END AIDS endurance training program. Consider training to complete a marathon, half marathon, triathlon, or a 100-mile bike ride from Chicago to Milwaukee while raising money for the fight against AIDS.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported on September 23 that approximately one in five gay men in 21 American cities are HIV-positive, and 44% were unaware of their status. Chicago released its data from this study in July 2009 and found that a little more than 17% of gay men surveyed were found to be HIV-positive.
